Authentic Italian Desserts Menu from Maremma, Italy

Classic Italian Desserts Menu

authentic italian desserts: cassata

On this page you will find an authentic Italian desserts menu from my favourite restaurant in Maremma, Italy: Ristorante Il Leccio near Massa Marittima. Here they not only serve excellent home-made and freshly prepared antipasti, primi and secondi piatti, but mouthwatering classic Italian desserts.

The above photograph of one of the more well-known traditional Italian desserts, Cassata, and is by kind courtesy of checcastef who has some wonderful photographs of Italian Foods in her Flickr photostream.

The Italian Desserts menu... Enjoy!

The Dolci "fatti in casa"
- home-made desserts - Menu

Sfogliatina alle Fragole Fresche
Puff pastry with fresh strawberries.

Torta di Riso
A sweet custard, ground almond and rice cake.

Crostata di Marmellata di Prugne
A prune jam and pastry tart.

Torta della Nonna
"Grandmother's Cake" and also known as Torta di Pinoli: a Tuscan and Roman classic cake with pine nuts.

Tronco al Cioccolato (Nutella)
A Nutella Swiss Roll.

Tiramisu
A sponge (or sponge biscuits - "savoiardi") soaked/dipped in expresso coffee and layered with a whipped mixture of egg yolks, mascarpone, and sugar, and topped with cocoa.

Panna Cotta
A cooked cream with chocolate or fruits of the sauce topping.

Crema Catalana
A creamy custard topped with demerara sugar and a dash of liqueur. It arrives at the table alight with a huge blue flame and is one of my very favourites.

Sorbetti Artigianali
Hand-made sorbets.

Tartufu al Cioccolato Artigianale
Hand-made chocolate truffle gateau.

Cantucci e Vin Santo
Hand-made hazlenut biscuits to dip in the Vin Santo liqueur.

The restaurant often serves additional dolci, such as wedges of fresh ripe pineapple, or "tasting sorbetti" - a plate of individual small glasses filled with different handmade fruit sorbets.

To read about Ristorante "Il Leccio" and view the antipasti (appetizers), primi piatti (first courses), secondo piatti (second courses), contorni (side dishes), sfiziosi (tasty things), and formaggi (cheeses) menu, plus their "Menu Degustazione" (Tasting Menu), click on this Restaurant Maremma link. But beware, if you are not hungry now, you will be afterwards!
