
"Eventi Maremma": this is is your insider guide to a rich and colourful calendar of events in Maremma throughout the year from festivals, to medieval cross-bow competitions, grape and wine harvest celebrations, operas, carnivals, donkey palios, Maremman Butterei cowboy shows, country livestock shows... and a whole lot more.
These events are very much part of the local social calendar for people living in Maremma, with whole towns involved in their preparation and everyone attending from the new borns to the eldest resident, together with the populations of all of the neighbouring hamlets and hills.
They are a great opportunity to experience rural life and the dolce vita in Maremma: simple living within a strong social network - a rich life indeed.

February in Maremma - as elsewhere in Italy - is carnival and mountain bike and sailing race month. Maremma events in February.

Maremma events in March: six Tuscany carnivals, a bareback horse palio on the beach, a pagan purifying fire ritual, a pancake festival and more!

Maremma events in May include a spectacular medieval crossbow competition in a gorgeous middle ages city, the secrets of the prized Prugnolo mushroom, a Butteri cowboy show, and night time pirate raids for the kids!

Maremma events in September - "eventi Maremma in Settembre" - are a wonderful combination of livestock fairs, horsemanship competitions and shows, donkey palio's and live music. And, for wine lovers, the all important "vendemmia" - the grape harvest - is celebrated with whole town festivals accompanied by home-cooked local foods. What could be better?!

Eventi Maremma in October are a wonderful eclectic mix of activities that range from free childrens Japanese origami and script workshops, to a costumed medieval crossbow competition, autumnal chestnut, pumpkin and grape harvest festivals, motorcycle rallys and mountain bike treks, five day gastronomic food and wine tasting by a lagoon... to a free guided tour of "little Jerusalem" - the hill top town of Pitigliano and the Etruscan Vie Cave.

Maremma events in November: village autumnal festivals celebrating the first of the new press extra virgin olive oils, Maremma wines and artisan chocolates. What more could you wish for on a chilly November day?

One of Maremma's biggest carnivals is the "Carnevale di Follonica" which fills roads alongside the beach in this seaside town with colour, music, and costume during the first three weekends in February of each year.

Le Sagre in Maremma: Lazio & Tuscany festivals of food and wine that are wonderful opportunities to try seasonal home-cooked Italian speciality dishes in an informal atmosphere. The whole town will have helped in the preparations for the event, with the experienced cooks and chefs in the town in the kitchen, and the children, dad's and grandads serving at the tables. Everyone from miles around will be there!

Medieval crossbow competitions and archery tournaments: revered competitions of skill between medieval archers from ancient rival quarters of a city and other Tuscan cities set against a spectacular backdrop of Maremma's medieval cities and towns.

Maremma is home to many palios - competitions between the districts of a town or neighbouring territories - that range from the more well-known horse race, to donkey races, frog races and a regatta. Maremma Palios.
