With great golden sand beaches of its own and a spectacular coastline with some of the most beautiful beaches in Italy nearby, Follonica is a popular weekend and summer holiday destination for Italians living in Florence, Siena and even Rome, as well as Austrian, German and Swiss families who return year after year. In the height of summer (July and August), the town's population increases fifteen-fold: hence the large number of hotels, together with campsites, holiday villages and many apartments in the town.

NOTE: Many of the hotels in Follonica are closed during winter months opening from "Pasqua" (Easter) until the end of September. Those that are open all year often close for a month for their own "ferie" (holidays).
