The Maremma, Italy beach slideshow: for beach lovers everywhere. Although you cannot hear the waves breaking on the shore, feel the warmth of the Mediterranean sun or the gusts of the storm winds and sea spray on your face, I hope that these photographs go some way to sharing with you the stunning beauty of these beaches in a very special part of Italy: La Maremma in Tuscany and Lazio.
Nearly the whole of Maremma's stunning coastline with the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian seas resides in a protected nature reserve or natural park. Indeed, most of Maremma is a nature park.
Her beaches - and there are over ninety of them - are special places and some of the most beautiful in the whole of Italy. Visit them out of high summer season (before July and after August) and you may even have them to yourselves.
Whether you love walking along a never ending sands, paddling in the shallows, beachcombing in protected coves, wind surfing, swimming, or just sitting and listening to the waves breaking on the shore, Maremma's beaches are food for the soul... Enjoy.
The beach above is that of Torre Mozza in the Gulf of Follonica, which takes its name from the medieval tower that dominates it and is home to a handy bar and restaurant for refreshments during the summer.
If you want to pause the slideshow, fast forward, go backwards or take a look at each image in turn in your own time, move your mouse over the centre of the frame and the slideshow controls will become visible.
