Puntone di Scarlino Hotel La Darsena is one of three hotels/residential Maremma hotels in the coastal Puntone and Portiglione area of Scarlino.
It is situated just south of the junction between the main coastal road from Follonica to Castiglione della Pescaia (the SP158) and the inland road (Strada Provinciale del Puntone) to the medieval hill town and castle of Scarlino (and thence Gavorrano).
I stayed in this hotel for a few weekends one summer before it was refurbished and had a pleasant stay. (Unfortunately, however, the room allocated to my friend for one of those weekends was very damp.) It isn't a hotel with character, but the functional rooms were clean and the balconies provided some views of the (now developed) sailing port of Portiglione.
If you aren't choosing La Darsena for its convenience to the port (literally two minutes from the hotel lobby past the pharmacy, bars and pizzerias etc in Puntone) for your sailing holiday then, apart from the pool, there is little of interest within walking distance. Unless you are happy to cycle everywhere, you will need a car to explore Maremma from here.
La Darsena has sixty bedrooms:
- thirty family bedrooms with two or three beds,
- thirty family bedrooms with four beds (and the possibility of an extra bed),
- and 4 bedrooms for disabled people.

There is a restaurant - the Ristorante La Darsena - bar and pizzeria, communal areas, swimming pool, solarium, parking and organized beach services.
The Ristorante La Darsena offers genuine traditional Tuscan dishes, buffets, tastings, summer dishes, fish specialities, homemade desserts and a very large selection of wines. The restaurant has seating both inside and out and two terraces with sea views.
The hotel is located very near the Gulf of Follonica's most beautiful beaches and the famous Cala Violina."
