If you are planning on tasting Tuscany wine in Maremma you are in for a treat! Winemakers in Maremma produce some of the best wines in the world and there are some great ways to taste them that will leave you with wonderful memories of this special part of Tuscany.

Almost every wine farm or estate in Maremma is happy to receive a visit and offer you the opportunity to taste their wines. Only a very few are not. But, having said that, unlike the vineyard and winery trails in Australia or California, and despite there being well signposted and publicised wine routes in Maremma, nearly every vineyard here will want you to have booked in advance. Impromptu visits, therefore, are an option likely to leave you disappointed.
But, the good news is that I suspect that this will change quite rapidly over the next few years as the official tourism agency in Italy has started to promote Maremma as a Tuscany destination, and a new more local initiative (2010) to promote Maremma wines called MaremmaWineShire starts to mature.

Tasting Tuscany Wine in Bolghieri
Guided visits of the vineyards and 10 metre deep underground cellars with wine tastings are possible, as well as themed tasting sessions for small groups (of up to 15 people) combined with local excursions.

Tasting Tuscany Wine in Donoratico
Tenuta Argentiera offers two options for sampling their wines. The first does not require any prior booking in advance and comprises of wine tasting in their wine shop. Open Mon to Sat from 10.00 to 18.00 (excluding public holidays).
The second option comprises of a two hour guided visit around the hillside vineyards and the winery cellar. Ending with the tasting of three of their wines and extra virgin olive oil, accompanied with a small snack of local produce. In this instance, advance are bookings required: by telephone or email.
